Monopoly Education
Recently I’ve rediscovered my love of handwriting which has been very freeing indeed. I’ve a few ideas brewing that might make an appearance at some point over the next while. We played Monopoly a while back and I won.  It felt and looked ugly.

Breeze
He watched standing silent in the corner as the window he had opened changed the room, as a cool breeze blew across their foreheads, the old man whistled loud a tune.  A nurse began to dance around the deathbeds, a crippled man cried glory praise the Lord as the cool breeze flooded through the window and once where there was sadness there was joy.   The children bounced like crickets on a...

Good Friday
In this darkening twilight In the grip of caustic expectations  In this void of promise Dwell here In the dread of uncertainty In this frozen nothing In these sodden garments Dwell here In this blackening stillness In the muted obscurity In the absence of heartbeat Dwell here In the coercion of sadness In the aggression of weeping In the constancy of anguish  Dwell here In the...

Surely He Was The Son Of God...
Surely he was the Son the God Spat out, no longer kissed. Surely he was the Son of God Sliced open, gorged on, ripped Surely he was the Son of God Vintage, sloshed and guzzled Surely he was the Son of God Defiled, blemished, muzzled Surely he was the Son of God Sin of God that never was Surely he was the son of God Flawless Son who always was Such womb like love Birth through his...

Rest and Rupture...
Can we balance the scales and see rest and rupture on a level playing field?  Community always comes at great cost whether it be with eachother or with God.  There is much rest to be found in the place of Christian community but before we make it that far there is an embrace with Christ that might cost us everything, a place in which we encounter a love that will not in the first instance repair...

Rest and Rupture
So often in church we hear that there we will find purpose, peace and a place to belong.  There often comes with the embrace of newly found or rediscovered faith the promise of solace from hardships, a deeply seeded joy in our hearts and a settling down of the sea of despair that life can sometimes be.  In being reconciled to each other and to God the promise is often one of rest.  In accepting...

Beatitudes Rewritten
God’s are the barren For theirs is virgin land Crowned are the broken For they will be mended Blessed are the malleable For they will fashion a new kingdom God’s are those who delay For in fasting they will feast Crowned are the light bearers They will see truth Undamned are the soulclean For they have room for God Blessed are they who sabbath For they will reside in...

Different
1 Corinthians 12 : 12 -26 Christ is the garment that adorns this body.  One form, baptised in Christ.  Straying eyes and nosey ears, flat feet that cannot dance.  Fumbling, faltering hands and weak, crumbling knees join with weary worn out shoulders saddled with the glory of God to declare the love of the Father, displayed in the Son through the power of the spirit all as one.  This is who...

Tribes
Galatians 3:26-29 No outward sign, no tribal mark will make us right with God.  Colours stained on walls or heady proclamations do nothing to bring us close to him.  The Father looks to the heart, a place where the spirit might take up residence.  Threads of green and orange or red or white, black or blue count for little.  In baptism, we put on Christ, one new garment of many colours.  For in...

Three In One
Matthew 3:13-17 The Son is immersed, the Spirit descends and the Father speaks “this is my son, whom I love, with him I am well pleased”. This is Holy Trinity at it’s work of salvation…Father endorses the Son as mediator, Son enters his mission, Spirit in Christ is spoken to all people.  Three In One, displaying the fulness of love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, goodness, faith,...

One Horse Town
The Village is a wondrous place, full of life and stories. The daily grind, the highs and lows, the joys and then the worries. A fractured town of real life folk who built these walls with pride.  Many facets has this place, built firm on a mudslide. Pull the blinds and lock the door, the storm outside is brewing. The kids are safe, tucked up in bed, their progress you’re reviewing. ...

Go In Peace
Go now in piece To love and serve Go now in piece  To live and learn Go in peace. Now in one piece  As 100 pennies make a pound Like a 1000’s redwoods on a hill As a cacophony of voices in chorus As a million stitches makes a garment Go in one glorious piece Like 10 trillion droplets makes a shower As 10 wild geese fly as V As countless links in a rusted chain As a gazillion...

Come In Pieces
Come in pieces Scattered as you are Like a newly unboxed jigsaw Come in pieces Detached from glory In ruins, where walls have fallen Come in pieces Another survivor of fortune’s fancy Stunned and laid out bare Come in pieces Torn, ragged in tatters Old wet bunting long after the party’s over Come in pieces Held neither by rhythm nor rhyme Out of step and out, of, kilter ...

Go In Pieces - Padraig O Tuama
This poem below help me piece together what we did at Fitzroy tonight… In the name of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. In the name of goodness and love and broken community. In the name of meaning and feeling and I hope you don’t screw me… In the name of sadness, regret, and holy obsession, the holy name of anger, the spirit of aggression… In the name of beauty and...

Silence
Father God… You mock us as we sit in silence. As if our silence can change one thing. You mock us because it’s not our silence. It’s yours. Your stoney silence that fills these walls. You will not speak because you do not speak. God don’t speak for I could not handle it. These prayers are only fit to preserve and maintain me. You would only rupture me… ...

Cleopas
So we’re on the road to Emmaus, we’d started out early to make the 7 mile journey before the heat got too high.  What a week that had been.  Gethsemane, Pilate, Herod, Peter’s breakdown and the then the execution.  The whole thing had become just one big blur and I was exhausted, the last thing I felt like doing was travelling but all the same we set off.     Deflated, that’s how we felt, that...

Peter
One minute you’re declaring your allegiance to a friend, more than a friend, Christ, the Messiah.  I remember that day like it was yesterday.  That’s what he was, I mean of course, after all we’d been through there was little left for the imagination to conjure.  Knowing Jesus that intimately robbed me of imagination.  Impossible became nothing…     I was never the compulsive type until I...

Whore
I watched you through the tinted glass. Your forced expression clear.  Your eyes, they tell a story I may not want to hear.   Red light your youth exposes. No more older than a girl. Those that use and lie with you deceived by plastic stare.   You stand all day, a temptress, a  silent voice of lies. What you sell does not exist but for it men’s souls cry.   You think that skimpy,...

Words - Filled
The psalmist declares that the heaven’s declare the creator’s glory, so steeped are they in his image, diffuse with his presence and so it is with our word, your words.  Impregnated, filled and saturated with an often overlooked sacredness.  Untold beauty or insufferable madness lie there within and it with all this in mind that we acknowledge that words truly matter.   Some words should never...

Words - Connect
Words connect for good or for ill because they are imbued with spirit.  They do not exist in isolation from the once perfect yet fallen, mind-blowing world which they describe or in which they were created.   The word became flesh.  Jesus bacame flesh. Where did it grow up?  Where did that word come from?  Where had that word put down it’s roots?  What culture was it a product of?  ...

Words - Power
And yet the power of words to shatter is so evident.  Whether written, spoken, dobbed on a wall, nailed to a lampost or enacted nefariously, everyday words be they mere syllables or whole sentences possess an untamable power than no one can contain.  If anything were ever not to be doubted then it’s the power and potency of words to give birth to infinite madness.  From indoctrination to abuse,...

Words - Translation
Translation brings much to bear upon the words that we use.  There are times when we all need the correct translation, find yourself in a Spanish cafe wanting a plate of egg and chips and you’ll know what I mean.  How do we take hold of a word that means so much in English and bring the same powerful meaning that it possesses upon hearers and readers from around the globe?  Translate an everyday...
